Advancing Methodologies in Sexual Science





Nathan began as an Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health and Social Policy at the University of Victoria in July 2016. He completed a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Guelph and a CANFAR/CTN Postdoctoral Fellowship with the British Columbia Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS and an Ontario HIV Treatment Network Junior Investigator Development Award at the University of Toronto’s Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. Championing interdisciplinary, mixed methods, and community-based participatory approaches, he has conducted HIV and sexual health research with gay, bi and queer cis and trans men, including ethnoracialized and indigenous men across Canada and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Dr. Sakaluk is an Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria in the Department of Psychology, where he teaches courses on the psychology of sexuality, and statistics. Dr. Sakaluk sits on the editorial board of multiple sexuality research journals, serving as a statistical consultant for both the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality and the Journal of Sex Research. A social and quantitative psychologist by training, Dr. Sakaluk’s research program is focused on the study of relationship and sexual norms, multi-method (experimental, observational, meta-analytic) tests of social-psychological theories applied to human sexuality, and the evaluation and promotion of rigorous and replicable methods and analyses.

Robin Milhausen earned her PhD in Applied Health Science at Indiana University, with a minor in Human Sexuality from the Kinsey Institute.  Milhausen has almost 100 peer-reviewed publications and has given more than 100 educational lectures and conference presentations.  Her research interests include sexual arousal and desire, gender differences and similarities in sexuality, and condom use and sexual health.  Milhausen is currently an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality.

Terry Humphreys, PhD is the current President of The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS), and a Full Professor in the Department of Psychology at Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. He is an Editor of the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality (CJHS), and a Consulting Editor for the Journal of Sex Research. He is also a long-standing planning committee member of the Guelph Sexuality Conference (Canada’s largest and longest running annual sexuality conference). His academic/research interests focus broadly on sexual communication in intimate relationships. Specifically, his expertise is in the negotiation of sexual consent in multiple contexts; sexting behaviour in young adults; first sexual experiences; and unwanted/coercive sexual encounters.
