The Society For The Scientific Study of Sexuality
The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality is an international organization dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about sexuality. The Society brings together an interdisciplinary group of professionals who believe in the importance of both the production of quality research and the clinical, educational, and social applications of research related to all aspects of sexuality.
In 1957, The Society was founded to encourage rigorous systematic investigation of sexuality. The early 20th century has produced phenomenal growth in scientific understanding; however, similar gains were not being made in understanding sexuality, with knowledge often mixed with misunderstanding and confusion. Through interdisciplinary cooperation. The Society continues to support the study of sexuality as a valid area of research by the scientific community.
A strength of The Society is the range of disciplines represented by its members, conference participants and journal authors. A broad interdisciplinary perspective is insured by dialogue and research contributions from biologists, physicians, nurses, therapists, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, historians, educators, and theologians.

Eligibility for Membership
Membership is limited to applicants who have demonstrated an active professional commitment to the advancement of knowledge about sexuality. Applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee to determine eligibility; additional information may be requested.
If an applicant is accepted, membership becomes effective with the payment of dues. Membership is paid on a calendar year basis only. After September 1, all membership dues paid will be applied to the next calendar year.

Categories of Membership
- FELLOWS - Fellows are elected for their outstanding contributions to the sphere of sexual knowledge. Election is by the Board of Directors upon recommendation of the Fellows Committee.
- MEMBERS - Members hold advanced degrees in their areas of expertise.
- ASSOCIATE MEMBERS - Associate Members must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant academic discipline.
- COUPLE MEMBERS - Couple members are offered a reduced dues fee, and they receive one copy of each publication and mailing. Applicants for couple membership must submit one application for each person.
- RETIRED MEMBERS- Retired professionals who are over 65 years of age and who have greatly reduced their professional activities may maintain membership in the Society at a reduced rate.
- STUDENTS - There are two categories of student memberships - Undergraduate Student Affiliate Member and Graduate Student Member. Proof of current student status must accompany applications for student membership.
