Leo Wilton, Ph.D., MPH, is a Professor in the Department of Human Development at the State University of New York at Binghamton. His research interests include health disparities and inequities (HIV prevention and care); Black psychological development and mental health; critical community-based participatory research; and mixed- and multi-methods research. His scholarly research on the HIV epidemic focuses on the intersectionality of race, gender, and sexuality as situated in macro- and micro-level inequalities in African and African Diaspora communities. His scholarly research program explores how intersectional inequalities provide a praxis framework for developing culturally-congruent HIV prevention and care interventions for communities of color. He has served as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Investigator on several National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research studies.

Dr. Cristóbal Calvillo is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Public Health, where he focuses on advancing sexual health research in the South, specifically in Arkansas. His extensive international academic background includes a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Granada (Spain), a master’s in Sexology from the University of Almería (Spain), and a Psychology degree from the University of Monterrey (Mexico). His multidisciplinary expertise allows him to bring unique insights into human sexuality and psychology.

During his doctoral studies at the Laboratory of Human Sexuality at the University of Granada (LabSex UGR), Dr. Calvillo led groundbreaking research exploring the complexities of sexual satisfaction and attachment in same-sex couples, including predictive models of sexual satisfaction and experiments using genital plethysmography to study sexual arousal. His contributions also include the development and validation of multidimensional assessments of sexual satisfaction tailored for Hispanic and Spanish same-sex adults, marking a significant contribution to the field.

Dr. Calvillo has authored numerous publications in high-impact indexed journals and presented his research at national and international conferences. Notably, he received the Best Poster Presentation Award in 2017. Beyond his research, he actively engages in the academic community as a guest editor for a Special Issue in Healthcare. He also serves on the editorial boards of Frontiers in Sociology and Psychology, highlighting his commitment to advancing knowledge in sexuality studies.

In his current role at UAMS, Dr. Calvillo is in his third year of research focused on understanding the factors that impact sexual health within the Arkansan population, emphasizing health disparities and infection disease prevention. His dedication to community engagement and public health drives his work, as he aims to produce impactful research that informs interventions and policies benefiting LGBTQ+ sexual health.

CANCELLATION POLICY (In-Person Registration):


All 2025SSSS Annual Conference cancellation requests must be sent to SSSS by email at thesociety@sexscience.org. If the email is received on or before August 15, 2025 your full in-person registration will be refunded. If the email is received between August 15th, 2025 and November 1, 2025, your in-person registration will be refunded minus a $100.00 (USD) administrative fee. There will be no refunds as of November 2, 2025. All refunds will be sent electronically or by check. Email should include: name, mailing address, phone number, reason for cancellation, the name/email address of the credit card that was used when purchasing your registration, and a statement from you with a request to remove your presentation from the Annual Conference Program. Please include presentation title and co-authors (if applicable) in the email. If SSSS must cancel or relocate the 2025 Annual Conference due to unforeseen circumstances, an email will be sent to all registrants with details and refund options.

SSSS Family Support Financial Assistance Program


The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) is a “professional family” to many in the sexual science community. The Family Support Program provides an opportunity for SSSS to support "your family" so you can attend the conference in person.


The support is not intended for routine childcare, routine long-term care, or routine care due to disability, but is focused on both professionals and students who will incur additional expenses while attending the conference for childcare, eldercare, and/or care due to disability (for yourself and/or for a family member).


If you are eligible and would like to be considered to receive financial assistance to offset the cost of registration, we invite you to apply to the SSSS Family Support Financial Assistance Program.


The number of people assistance will be provided for is limited.


There is a limit of one SSSS scholarship/award/grant per individual, per year.

Am I eligible for the member rate?

Anyone with a current 2025 SSSS membership will receive the member registration rate. If you have any questions about your membership, contact SSSS at TheSociety@SexScience.org.

Do co-authors have to register?

Anyone attending/presenting at the conference must register.

 

How do I earn CEs?

The CE registration link will be found on this page -- sexscience.org/conference2025.  Choose "conference registration" and scroll down until you see the button to register for the general conference.  The CE registration is included in that process.  

I'm receiving an award, so my partner wants to attend the Awards Ceremony. Can we pay for only that event?

If I am a presenter, do I have to register? Is there a special rate?

Yes, all presenters must register by the presenter registration deadline. We do not offer presenter rates, but we do offer member rates and an early rate. Refer to the "Conference Registration" section for more information.

What is the cancellation policy for the in-person conference?

All 2025 SSSS Annual Conference cancellation requests must be sent to SSSS by email at thesociety@sexscience.org. If the email is received on or before October 13, 2025, your full registration will be refunded. If the email is received between October 14 and November 3, 2025, your in-person registration will be refunded minus a $100.00 (USD) administrative fee. There will be no refunds as of November 4, 2025. All refunds will be sent electronically or by check. Can I see what sessions will be offered before I arrive?
All registrants will receive access to the web/mobile app a few days before the conference with the schedule of presentations.

How do I get the AV equipment I will need?
The breakout rooms during the concurrent sessions will be equipped with a projector, PC laptop and screen.

Are there any requirements for presentations?
All presentations must include a "Conflict of Interest" statement on their slide/poster. If there is no conflict of interest, please list "N/A" on the slide/poster.


I am presenting an oral presentation, Symposium/CE, and/or a CE workshop. How should I prepare my slides for presentation?
All presenters are asked to bring their slides on a USB Flash Drive for their presentation. This allows for easy flow between presentations and to ensure there are no disruptions with presentations and/or WIFI.


I am presenting a poster. What is the size for the posters?
The space allotted for each poster is 3.5' (width ) x 4' (height). Please plan accordingly.

Can I attend the CE sessions if I didn't register for CE?
T
he CE workshops are open to all conference registrants, but CE registrants will have priority if the maximum room capacity is reached.

If a participant is interested in earning CECH and plans to receive a certificate for the CE workshops/sessions they attended, pre-registration is required (at additional cost). You MUST sign the in room sheet to receive your credits.  Please allow time after the conference to receive your certificate.

I am an international participant and need a letter of invitation before I can receive my visa. What is the process?
Send the information you need to SSSS at TheSociety@SexScience.org. If you are presenting during the conference, the request will need to be sent to SSSS as soon as you receive your presentation acceptance email to ensure your conference registration is processed before the presenter registration deadline. Refer to the "Conference Registration" section for the presenter deadline. 

Please allow 5 business days for the letter to be produced.

When should I book my flight?
We recommend booking your flight as soon as possible. We highly recommend purchasing flight insurance. If the conference moves to virtual or relocates because of unforeseen circumstances, SSSS is not responsible for flight cancellation fees. When planning your travel, arrive early on Thursday and depart later on Sunday to allow time to attend the plenary sessions. Students and first-time attendees also have an opportunity to meet SSSS leaders on Thursday before the opening plenary.
