Description:

This SSSS BDSM/Kink SIG Panel Discussion will focus upon Internal Review Board (IRB) processes related to BDSM/Kink Research.  Panelists will illuminate the processes involved in review of potential research studies, management of both institutional and participant risk, and trends in the sexological research field.  The panel will also discuss justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) issues related to the IRB processes, which might support or marginalize BDSM/Kink Dissertations and Research.

Keywords:

BDSM & Kink; Qualitative Research; Quantitative Research

Learning Objectives:

1. Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to define characteristics of the Internal Review Board (IRB) processes in relation to inclusivity through marginalization of BDSM / Kink sexualities.

2. Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to differentiate between the review and guidance processes for quantitative, qualitative, and/or phenomenological research proposals.

3. Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to recognize the perceived risks for institutions, funding sources, and/or researchers associated with research of BDSM/Kink interests, attractions, behaviors, affinities, and/or communities.
